Blue Mash Nature Trail, Montgomery County, 16 Dec 04, 0700-0830

A cold, clear, crystalline morning walk around the BMNT. Both ponds were
completely frozen over except for a small opening on the inner pond that
held four tightly packed Mallards. The ducks and a single flyover Canada
Goose were the extent of waterfowl. A flock of 20 or so Cedar Waxings
displayed their colors in the early morning sunlight as they gleaned berries
from tree bound vines. The berms around the landfill and outer pond were
recently mowed, impacting some prime sparrow feeding habitat. Am. Tree,
White-crowned and Fox were among the 7 sparrow species noted. No raptors
and only one woodpecker, a Red-bellied. I hope Saturday's Tridelphia CBC
proves a tad more birdy.
