Folks
Today Matt Hafner came down to Charles County to do some county listing and
help me on my big year effort. The bird of the day was a first year
Thayer's Gull found in Benedict. We had about 200 (mostly) Herring Gulls, a
couple Great Black-backed, one Lesser Black-backed, a couple Ring-billed,
and one first year Thayer's. Matt picked the bird out of the flock that
sprang into the air as we watched.
Benedict is located in eastern Charles County at the Rt. 231 bridge. From
Hughesville take Rt. 231 east. Benedict is just west of the bridge that
crosses into Calvert County. Turn right onto Benedict Avenue. Go about 1/2
mile to the restaurant on the left past the post office. The flock of gulls
were there around 3 PM and remained as long as we were there. This bird may
roost there. I am likely to try to relocate it tomorrow for Gwen.
Matt and I also had two Great Cormorants, several Surf Scoters, and two
Black Scoters at Cobb Island.
Thanks Matt for the help. Maybe more tomorrow if I find the time.
