The Annual Count of species seen in MD by all reporting birders has been
updated on the MOS State Web Site. This is the last update until the end of
the year. We are standing at the second all time high percentage of species
seen, 82.2. We are far short of the 2003 total of 83.4% and needed that
Winter pelagic to even come close. However, it's been a great year for
individual species visitors. We have thus far seen 346 birds on the State
list and 4 possible new list species, not including the Great White Heron
(subspecies). Contrary to the picture painted by the percentages, looking
at the number of species seen, we are only one off from last year's all time
high of 347 sightings. So..there is still time to get a "best" year total.

Good luck to all on the Counts this year!

Best birding,

Fran
