Today I watched and listened to an immature Red-tailed Hawk rip and eat a
gray squirrel. It was on the ground in the median of Joppafarm Road accross
from the back parking lot of the former Superfresh Supermarket. It was just
a few feet from the road. The hawk was alert and aware of the cars whizzing
past. A woman speaking on her cell phone crossed the road and came within
15 feet of the hawk. It did not move. Musta been hungry. I wonder if it
was road kill, and if the hawk had its road kill recipes handy.
