Some birding visitors and I checked the area near Poolesville Golf
Course for the Sandhill Crane, but didn't see it where it has been
reported. However, much to our surprise, we saw the bird in the town
itself! At the intersection of Wotton Ave. and Hoskinson Rd, in a
yard at the small townhouse development, the bird was present 6-10
feet from the road (Wotton Ave.)!! The people living at the SW corner of
that intersection put some straw out along an edge of their yard, and
the bird was there picking through the straw.

I have no idea why the bird was there, it seems slightly wary, we were
only about 10 feet away from it. We did not get out of our car. It
seemed quite vulnerable to a dog or cat where it was...I hope it
survives.
