My thistle feeder is about 18" long and holds I don't know how many pounds of thistle. The Goldfinches simply love it and drain it at least once every 2 days and sometimes daily. For a little bird, they sure do eat lots of thistle. The feeder is always loaded with birds and birds waiting, sometimes not patiently, for their turn. I keep hoping to see a Pine Siskin especially since there are lots of reports of them near my house.

Today, as I was sewing (yes, the machine is fixed!) I looked up and saw a dainty streaky bird at the thistle feeder. At last, a Pine Siskin has found the feeder!

I think we've finally squirrel proofed the peanut feeder. The squirrels had figured out how to get around the baffle. Hubby smeared the baffle with a noxious concoction of Vaseline and ground red pepper. We're now on day 4 of squirrel free peanut feeder.

Happy birding
