In addition to the birds I saw this am (22 species posted earlier today), I
saw 32 more species either in my yard or around Jug Bay. It was a great
day, especially since I was home-bound with the kids all but the last
hour. I had 54 species total today, and all but 7 (*) were observed from
the house or yard. What a great day; highlights for the date or locality
were Pied-billed Grebe, Snow Goose, and Canvasback; and a Barred Owl that
was spotted by my 5YO son first! Here are the other 32 species from today:

Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Turkey Vulture
Black Vulture
Tundra Swan*
Snow Goose
American Black Duck
Common Merganser
Northern Shoveler
Canvasback
Bufflehead
Bald Eagle*
Northern Harrier
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
Mourning Dove
Barred Owl*
Great Horned Owl*
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker*
Northern Flicker
Blue Jay
Tufted Titmouse
Eastern Bluebird*
Eastern Towhee
Song Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow*
Dark-eyed Junco
Common Grackle
Brown-headed Cowbird
House Sparrow

(*) denotes species observed near Jug Bay from Mt. Calvert, either at
Charles Branch or Billingsley Marsh.

I enjoyed reading the posts from today, it sounds like quite a few folks
had a great day out in the field today!

Happy New year to all-
