I agree that the County List Competition should be made useful to the
Breeding Bird Atlas.
How about the following for 2005?
1) the same as Jim's suggestion; 100 species in each county;
2) 50 species (not necessarily the same) UPGRADED in each county (but not
necessarily in the same block, or quarter block)
Suggestion 2 requires data mining on the BBA website, or contact with the
various county coordinators. But the entire county is being done by quarter
blocks, so there is still room for work. Most counties have at least a
couple of blocks where there is lots of room for improvement. A quick scan
of the country atlas records indicates that Howard County might be the
toughest in which to meet suggestion 2.
Those taking up this challenge will at least be kept busy with paperwork,
if not birding :)
