Speaking of Cackling Geese, there were 4 at the Blue Mash trail at lunchtime today (Friday), on the pond behind the chain link fence with lots of large Canadas.  They stuck closely together (as is their wont) most of the time.  As many others have noted, the chain link fence means you can get great views of birds on the pond, so I got what was probably my best views ever of these birds.  I wonder whether it is coincidence that the 2 previous winters also had a group of 4 wintering in the county, at Black Hills.  Also one Eared Grebe at Black Hills and a brief view of the Lapland Longspur at Hughes Rd.
