I'm forwarding a post from some friends of ours in Texas. I'm sure quite
a few MDOsprey folks were fortunate enough to meet or maybe even bird
with Luther. I can only hope to have as much vigor if I get to be his
age!

Luther Goldman died around 2:30 this afternoon (1/12). Though his name
may not be familiar to some, his work will be recognized by most
everyone
reading this. He was responsible for designing & overseeing construction
of both Santa Ana & Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuges in Texas
in the late 1940s, & worked at the Salton Sea NWR in California as
well. Though slowing down a bit recently (at age 90+!) he was still
eager to get out & look for birds. He's the only person we know with
Passenger Pigeon on his lists! He's missed & mourned but fortunately for
us all his legacy shines on.
