Hi Folks,

Ray Kiddy and I birded at the Northeast Landfill on Saturday 1/15/05. We
found a 1st year ICELAND GULL and an Adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
(probably the same birds Sean McCandless has been seeing in the area). I
photographed a very pale-winged Herring Gull that I tried to make into a
Thayer's but the more I studied it the more it just seemed to look like a
Herring Gull. We tried the Town Park referred to in Seans earlier posts
but there were only a couple of hundred (mostly Ring-billed) gulls there.
There was however a single CACKLING GOOSE there among 60 or 70 Canadas.

Then we left Cecil and birded in Harford County at Swan Harbor Farms where
we met Jim Brighton and Hans Holbrook. Highlights were 2 Fox Sparrows at
the entrance gate, Pintails, Wigeon, Black Ducks, Gadwall, a single Am. GW
Teal and N. Shovelor. Jim and Hans told us where to stop along Rt. 40 by
some picnic tables to see RN Ducks, Hooded Mergs, Common Mergs etc. We saw
all of that and a single male Greater Scaup there on the Bush River.

Ray and I were then intent on heading West for home and to see if our luck
would improve with finding the Shrike on Shaffer Road. It did because as
luck would have it, Brad Lanning, his Uncle Roy and his Grandfather had it
in the scope as we drove up.

I have some photos of the Iceland Gull, the pale Herring Gull, the
Cackling Goose, and the Shrike (mostly our of focus but Id-able). If
anyone wants to see them let me know off-list and I'll either send them via
email or post them to a website someplace. I'll send some info to Phil
Davis along with Shrike photos post-haste.
