Folks

Suffering from a case of serious cabin fever, I wondered over to the Staples
house at Hollis Point (I hope that's what it is called.), which is at the
end of Fenwick Road, Charles County. Hollis Point is where Pomonkey Creek
and the Potomac join. On arriving I found about 100 waterfowl. The
highlight for me was at least 10 Redhead Ducks mixed in with about 500
Canvasbacks. There was also a good mix of Ring-necked Duck ( ~100), both
Scaup, Hooded Mergansers (~20), Bufflehead (~60), lots of Mallards (~200),
about 10 Black Duck, ~ two hundred+ Canada Geese, a few Gadwall, several
Ruddy Duck, and one fly by Common Goldeneye. Always a treat to see so many
waterfowl so close.

After my slow walk to the waters edge so as not to flush the ducks, I
wondered over to the Potomac side of the property. Much to my surprise I
found six American Pipit grazing on the lawn. A nice yard bird anywhere.
Mixed in with the Pipits were maybe 10 Song and two Swamp Sparrows. John
lent me hit Canon 20D and I got pretty close to the pipits and took a series
of images.

Up near the house a female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was working the trunk of
a tree, and a Yellow-shafted Flicker was flying around the yard. Such a
lovely property. Thanks John and Carrie for permission to bird, but next
time a cup of tea please for a life bird.

Back in the cabin but feeling better bird wise.
