Finding a few minutes to swing by Hains Point this afternoon around 4:00, I
was pleasantly surprised to find 2 SNOW GEESE (1 adult, 1 juvenile) foraging
together among the hundreds of Canada Geese working the freshly exposed
grass at the north end of golf course complex. It seemed as though every
Canada in the District was here. The Snow Geese were found on one of the
greens closest to the driving range, best seen from the fence near the
Tourmobile building. Perhaps these geese were the same as reported in past
weeks along Washington Channel.

A quick survey along the Potomac verified the water to still be mostly iced
over, with a few areas of open water. A couple of Lesser Scaup rafts were
present, along with the typical gulls and several Great Blue Herons perched
on the waterside railings.
