Took a break and had a nice long hike through the woods. As expected, not
many birds (they're all on my balcony) but as hoped, one chilly-looking
raptor, a juvenile Red-shouldered, that let me approach quite close.

I did find myself wishing I was camping. Thought a bit about last year's
snow at Assateague. Fine, driven rain metamorphising into stinging ice to
softer snow over the water at the ferry landing at dusk. Big wet flakes in
the darkness, halos of white in my headlamp as I wandered around the
campground and down the beach, waking in the night and trying to remember
the load limit of the tent as the stuff piled on, and the brilliant sun when
I emerged in the morning...

and no BRRRR! just a peaceful warmth as you slip into oblivion.

Four Whitethroats in the tree eyeing the feeder activities. They don't know
I still have some paint left...

Wrens are holing up under the lawn furniture as usual. The Titmice seem to
be enjoying this - most singing I've heard thus far. OK, probably incorrect
anthropomorphization. Probably they're just practicing territorial
death-threats.

Open your curtains - you're missing all the fun!

P.S. I acquired one of those battery-driven whirly birdbath agitator things.
It's really great. It distibutes the warm water from the immersion heater so
the whole bath stays liquid. Wren is perched there right now, relaxing and
looking like he should have a little umbrella drink.
