Yesterday one of our Talbot County Bird Club members, Alice Jones,
had a Flicker feeding from her Thistle Seed feeder. The bird found a way of
hanging on the side of the feeder and then using it's long slender tongue to
probe the tiny feeder holes and pick out the seed. Since this feeder is
close to the house, such feeding provided an unusual and fascinating view of
the long tongue of the Flicker.
(I wonder if this Flicker will pass the words amongst its friends.
If so, Flickers of the region may discover a great new source of winter
food.)
Has anyone else seen Flickers doing this?
