After an absence of a week, the PINE SISKIN returned to my thistle
feeders yesterday (Feb 3rd) and was briefly back again this morning. One
year ago, a Siskin had also visited this place, and that one stayed around
for quite awhile.

Other birds continue to take advantage of the free and easy food
during this period of the ground being covered with snow. Every day
visitors have been Brown Thrasher (2), Blue Jays (up to 20), Cardinals (17
or more), Goldfinches (45 yesterday in the company of the siskin), Fox
Sparrows (up to 3), great numbers of White-throats and Juncoes, a few Song
Sparrows, and the occasional visit of a massive flock of blackbirds (several
thousand birds, mostly red-wings and Common Grackles, but with a few
Starlings and Cowbirds mixed in).
