Today's Cecil Bird Club gull field trip to the North East Town Park was a
tad slow for gulls. Seventeen of us started a little bit after 8:00 a.m.
and had five species for the day with tons of Ring-billed, Herring, and
Great Black-backed.
The first 1st-winter Iceland Gull was a flyover heading towards the Cecil
County Landfill around 10:00 a.m. Not long after, we had another 1st-winter
Iceland Gull out on the ice. A second 1st-winter Iceland Gull appeared out
on the ice around noon. This second bird was either chasing a crow sp. or
being chased by one or more crow sp. for about 5 to 10 minutes giving
excellent views of the bird in flight.
In mid-afternoon, an adult-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull showed up on the
ice and stayed for an hour or so.
There were no Glaucous or Thayer's today.
The last of us left at 3:30 p.m. At that point Jim Brighton arrived and I
wished him well for the rest of the day. Hope you found some great gulls,
Jim.
