I was at the Lapwing location on Graceham this morning from 7:30-9:30, and
as Rob had reported, it was not seen there or anywhere in the area.
However, I exchanged voice mail with another birder from VA, John Fox, and
he said that the bird showed up late in the day today - at 4:45pm - along
Blacks Mill Rd. He described the location as "west of the older farm house,
and "there's a 15 mph yellow curve sign in the middle of the field" or
something. I believe he also said that the bird hung around for about an
hour.
I also got a call in the middle of the day from Channel 5 news. Apparently
they're doing a story on the bird. Apologies to Kurt Schwarz if you didn't
want the guy calling you.
Cell phones were incredibly useful, and I appreciate all the calls today. I
can't try again tomorrow, but will give it a go Friday afternoon. Again, my
cell number is 703-975-1480. Hope this bird is back on an afternoon routine
and hangs in a few more days.
Good birding,
