I decided to do a little waterfowl birding in Washington Coumty this morning. I started at Big Pool, arriving at 9. Unfortunately the park doesn't open until 11. So I detoured north to Indian Springs where the pond was wide open and there were:

Canada Goose 25
Mallard 2
Ring-necked Duck 30
Hooded Merganser 6

On to Blair's Valley Lake, unfortunately the lake was 99% frozen but I did see:

Canada Goose 5
Great Blue Heron 1
Killdeer 1
Woodcock - flushed 1
Kingfisher 1
Tree Sparrow 2

Back to Big Pool at 11 where the lake is 90% frozen but most of the north shore is open and waterfowl were crowded in there:

Snow Goose 1 adult white, perhaps the same one I saw on the C&O Canal winter count about 5 miles downstream in January.
Canada Goose 300
Wood Duck 2, a pair
Baldpate 3, 2 males & 1 female
Black Duck 135
Mallard 45
Redhead 2, a pair
Greater Scaup 1 female
Lesser Scaup 5, 3 males & 2 females
Bufflehead 2 males
Hooded Merganser 10
Common Merganser 5 males
Ruddy Duck 1 female
Killdeer 2 flew over
Ring-billed Gull 2 adults
