I stopped at Chesapeake Environmental Center and found the male Eurasian Wigeon that Kevin Graff reported yesterday. It was straight out from the end of the canoe launch ramp in the upper part of the creek. It was against the grass feeding with other ducks and swans. It frequently disappeared from view in the grass and more frequently disappeared from view behind the swans. The distance was about a half mile so a telescope was necessary. I watched the bird off and on between 9:30 and 10. Light is best in the afternoon. Other birds present were:
Canada Goose 50
Mute Swan 20
Tundra Swan 50
Gadwall 2
Baldpate 60
Black Duck 2
Mallard 30
Shoveler 1 male
Green-winged Teal 7
Canvasback 75
Greater Scaup 20
Lesser Scaup 300
Bufflehead 5
Goldeneye 5
Hooded Merganser 5
Red-breasted Merganser 3
Ruddy Duck 800
Horned Grebe 2
Great Blue Heron 1
I also stopped at Matapeake where the waterfowl were considerably different including:

Black Scoter 25
Long-tailed Duck 10
