There has been much written about such lapwing logistics as location and
parking, but I haven't seen anyone address the critical issue of where to
find a satisfying lunch in the vicinity. After some reasonably good looks
at the bird early Saturday afternoon, we drove up 550 to Thurmont and were
fortunate to happen upon the Little Creek Side Café. Take 550 into town
and follow it to the right when it turns to go north. The café is a block
or two up on the righthand side, just before a RR overpass. Homemade
soups, french fries, and pies; a good salad bar; and a motherly waitress
who calls everyone "honey"--what more could you ask for? Tell 'em the
lapwing sent you!
