Good morning all.
Re this morning's Frederick Post article on habitat loss near the
Frederick airport. (Right under the Lapwing article)
I called the Post to ask about the tree removal. I had driven by to find
all the trees down, with no crew present. I suspected it had to do with the
airport expansion, but was curious. The next day when I drove by the crew
was there so I stopped to ask. It turned out that the City Arborist was
there.
He was very pleasant and we talked for some time.
I am a relatively new birder. I gave the reporter several names of
people to speak
to who are far more knowledgeable than I on habitat loss and species
fall-off,
including expert birders, the forestry expert at Gambrills, and a
scientist from Mt. St. Mary.
I never mentioned orioles or wood-thrushes. Given that she made me look
like a semi idiot I'm thankful she didn't pickup on the fact that I'm a
birder.
Oh well. . . .

If I keep a green bough in my heart,
the singing bird will come.
Chinese Proverb
A bird does not sing because it has an answer.
It sings because it has a song.
