Birders appreciate Creagerstown's welcome, patience
Published on Wednesday, March 9
The rare Northern Lapwing has returned to the fields north of
Creagerstown,
after an absence of almost two weeks. With the rediscovery of the bird
have
come visiting birders, some driving in from as far as New York, South
Carolina, Indiana, and beyond.
While this event may have produced some annoying congestion on narrow
roads, it has also produced some gracious neighbors who have welcomed
the
visitors -- avian and human.
Especially gratifying have been the locals who have allowed birders an
opportunity to park away from traffic. (I know that Jan and Kristen
Lawyer
are among them.)
Thanks to the local Creagerstown/Thurmont residents for their patience
during this event. Your "hosting" -- of Northern Lapwing and lapwing
admirers -- is much appreciated!
