Frank Boyle asks about Woodcock sightings.  I'm replying on-list since the range of dates of spring woodcock mating ritual is of interest to me (and others, I'm sure) as well.  

Fran and I had about 8 woodcock males peenting and doing their display flight on Saturday, March 7, at the Bayside Campground on Assateague Island, in the National Seashore area of the island.  There have been, however, reports on MDOsprey this Spring of displaying woodcocks back into almost mid-February, agreeing quite nicely with the spring buildup of woodcocks noted in the Yellow Book.
