While filling up the bird feeders this morning (many birds anxiously waiting, calling, singing), a "v" of about 100 Tundra Swans flew directly over our house, heading East Northeast. Interestingly, just inside the front of the huge outer V (which included most of the birds) was a "wedge" of 10-12 other birds, flying right behind the apex of the outer v).
The birds at the feeders were an interesting mix of residents, many engaging in courtship display (No. Cardinals, 1 male Red-bellied Woodpecker, drumming) or song (Song Sparrow), others showing the spring molt (American Goldfinch, 1 male wi partial black cap coming in, beginnings of brighter yellow on cheeks, throat; female, also showing some bright yellow color).
Meantime, still some "winter" birds around, White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Juncos.
Good birding,
--
