The Talbot County Bird Club visited various spots in the Oxford
region today and came up with a total of 60 bird species, including 20
species of ducks. Les Coble led the group of 13 birders.
Highlights: Ducks - including Wood Duck, Green-winged and
Blue-winged Teal, Northern Pintail, American Wigeon, Gadwall, Northern
Shoveler, Canvasback, Long-tailed Duck, Hooded and Red-breasted Mergansers,
Bufflehead, Goldeneye, Surf Scoter and Ruddy Duck.
Others - Common Loon, Horned Grebe, (sought but missed the
Red-necked Grebe that had been reported in Oxford recently), Osprey (only
one bird and this one was seen by only one of the birders), Northern
Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Bald Eagles (of course), Killdeer, Dunlin,
Screech Owl staring at us from a box, Downy, Hairy, Red-bellied, Flicker and
Pileated Woodpeckers, many Robins, Brown Thrasher, Yellow-rumped Warblers,
and one Wild Turkey (seen from one car after the main outing was over).
After the birding, the group enjoyed a delicious brunch at the home
of Nancy and Bernie Burns.
