You can also buy (at least in Europe, I would assume here as well) regular
tripod carrying straps which do not need the screw holes, but simply have a
slip loop with locking clip at both ends which fit around the tripod's
center column and head. The straps have a padded center for your shoulder.
Earlier models had metal fittings which were annoying as they rattled but
the newer models have plastic fittings. They certainly are the simplest
solution to the problem short of slinging it over your shoulder.

We bought ours in the UK so not sure where they are available here...
