Allow me to elaborate on Jim Speicher's piece on Regal Fritillaries:

"Lager populations" were various creatures that previously relied on light 
beer for growth, development and breeding.  However, there were so many drunk 
males during breeding season, that often mating did not take place, and the 
populations were reduced substantially in size.
