I spent the weekend birding the eastern shore. I stopped at tuckahoe in
maryland, and little creek, port mahon, bombay hook in deleware. Bombay
hook showed large numbers of snow geese and ducks with significant
exceptions. I also missed several birds located at port mahon, a
frustrating trip, but not without its fruits.
Birds of Note
The usual assortment, several hundred each: Pintail, Shoveler and Green
Winged Teal. Single goldeneye and bufflehead at bombay hook,
7-solitary sandpipers
1-lesser yellowlegs
Significant Birds Absent - Ruddy Duck, Horned and Pied Billed Griebes,
Blue WInged Teal,
Port Mahon-
Several hundred red winged black birds
Savannah sparrows
Absent- Sharp Tailed sparrows, and short eared owls. Unless i was
incorrectly identifying 8 harriers i saw. I was looking mostly at the
wing beat and white rump patch? Any other indicators that work well for
people? Also no rails were heard as i was leaving at dusk.
Tuckahoe had the normal assortment of forest birds, in addition to 7
bluebirds, 2 hermit thrushes and a phoebe. No waterthrushes.
Hope others had better luck
