While birding north of Elkton yesterday (but still in Maryland!), I picked
up a tick that I didn't notice until this morning. We've written about
migrating birds arriving early, but this is the earliest I've ever been
bitten by a tick. I was in a wooded area and brushed against many
leafless shrubs, but I would not have expected ticks to be lurking
on bare twigs, especially on such a cool day. Live and learn.

I am including the link to a website of the Internet Journal
of Dermatology because it provides good information, including photos,
for identifying ticks and which diseases they carry.
