I did a little birding in DC this morning and then again this afternoon.
Highlights:
Mouth of 4-mile Run
c.50 BONAPARTE'S GULLS. Like Mike Bowen, all birds were adults. Two had
darker heads, but otherwise they were still in basic plumage
1 NO. ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW (flying around with c.20 Trees)
2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL (m & f)
3 breeding pairs of OSPREY, all within about a tenth of a mile of each
other. With such breeding density, there must be plenty of food.
This afternoon I did a quick spin through Anacostia River Park. Didn't see
the Snow Geese, but did flush c.10 WILSON'S SNIPE in the wetlands. Speaking
of the wetlands, I noticed that there were numerous pink flags marking the
wetlands boundary. Presumably this is part of a surveying process as they
prepare to "improve" this whole area.
Good birding,
