This morning I followed Kurt Schwarz's directions and viewed the Heron
Nests on Lake Kittamaqundi at Columbia's Waterfront. You can see the nests
from the main pier, but I followed the trail to the left for a closer look.
The trail turns into a parcourse. Where the parcourse veers away from the
lake to the left, there is a natural trail to the right to a bench on the
lake. (This area is in the wooded area behind townhomes. The trail was
pretty muddy after yesterday's rain and there was a BIG dog running loose.)

The tree with the nests is directly across the lake from that bench. (You
can see the cars from Rte 29 passing behind the tree.) There appears to be
four nests, but the smallest one may not be occupied. This morning I saw
the heads of herons in the three larger nests.

This tree may not be one of the trees seen from the intersection of rte 175
& 29 and from westbound 175. I couldn't see the larger number of nests (at
least 10, maybe more) from the lake.
