Weather:
46-63 degrees; sunny; strong winds mostly out of the west, 7-25 mph,
gusting to 37 mph.
Observations:
Second 1000+ raptor day, 5 days after the first. First Broad-winged Hawk
of the season. Record early Sharpie flight. Fourteen species. Finally
some good weather for hawks and they took advantage of it big time. Sky
was almost never without migrants. Except for Red-Shoulders and
Red-tails, which are still at abysmally low numbers, most species now are
at or above average for this date.
Thousands of Tree Swallows; hundreds of Rough-winged and Barn Swallows; a few Purple Martins. Two Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers; 23 Common Loons; Caspian Tern
