Folks
The subject tells it so far today. Ralph, the wondering vagrant raven, did
not show last night or today - so far.
I did have some nice birds from the deck while waiting with camera in hand.
Two Tree Swallows, a pair of Cooper's Hawks (one male, one female), three
Chipping Sparrows, and five species of woodpeckers (Downy, Hairy,
Red-bellied, Yellow-shafted Flicker, and Pileated) were the highlights.
Other sparrows included White-throated, Dark-eyed Junco, and Song Sparrow -
all singing. The Eastern Phoebe from yesterday am did not re-appear. One
male Mallard flew south to north on the east side, but I had two yesterday,
so big deal.
Early the local Red-shouldered Hawk screamed while coming off it's roost. I
may need to check to see if the pair that was around all winter might be
making a nest in the path of the proposed new road. That's the road that is
going to destroy one of the remaining few Whip-poor-will nest locations in
Charles County. I have accused the commissioners of this immoral act, but I
had better stop before I lose my privileges. Maybe he won't read this far.
SMAS listers look for my letter to the editor in today's Maryland
Independent.
Gwen just advised there is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet trying to sing outside.
Got to go.
