When there's a lot of rain, a vast shallow pool of water forms around the
willow tree next to our driveway. Today a lovely pair of mallards was
swimming in this "lake," feeding and preening. Grackles and cardinals were
bathing at the water's edge. Given tonight's weather forecast, I expect the
water won't dry up for a while yet. Hmmm, maybe it'll attract a passing
lapwing...
