Hi Everyone,

Jim Brighton, Matt Hafner, and I spent an excellent spring day birding the
lower Eastern Shore on Sunday (4/10). We had 122 species for the day, to
include 11 species of warbler, most of the wading birds (inc. Am. Bittern),
a SORA, and many other highlights. 

Gadwall - 10+ at Deal Island
American Wigeon - Good numbers at Deal and Riley Roberts Rd.
Blue-winged Teal - 1 at Deal Island, 1 at Wye Island
Northern Shovelers - Deal and R. Roberts Rd.
Northern Pintails - Deal Island and R. Roberts Rd.
Surf Scoters - 20+ scoped from Chance (Somerset Co.)
Long-tailed Ducks - 1 at Oxford (Talbot Co.)
Red-breasted Merganser - 1 at Tanyard Marsh (Caroline Co.)
Wild Turkeys - Seen in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset Counties!
Common Loon - 1; in breeding plumage at Chance
Horned Grebe - 1; also at Chance
Northern Gannets - 50+; some plunge-diving, some resting off Chance
American Bitterns - 2 along R. Roberts Road
Great and Snowy Egrets - Several locations in Somerset 
Little Blue Herons - 4-5; Deal and R. Roberts Rd.
Tricolored Herons - 2 along R. Roberts Rd.
Cattle Egrets - 2; rural Somerset
Glossy Ibis - 5 at Deal Island
Peregrine Falcon - 1 soaring at Deal Island
Virginia Rails - several calling at Deal
SORA - 1 flushed at Deal
American Coot - 1; roadside in Talbot County
Black-bellied Plover - 3 or more on R. Roberts Rd.
Greater Yellowlegs - Many locations 
Lesser Yellowlegs - Dog Kennel Rd. in Dorchester; Queen Anne's County
Least Sandpipers - 2 on Reliance Rd. in Caroline County
Caspian Terns - 3 at Tanyard Marsh
Royal Terns - Somerset County
Purple Martin - 1 on R. Roberts Rd.
Marsh Wrens - Singing on R. Roberts Rd.
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers - Everywhere on lower Eastern Shore
Hermit Thrush - 1; Old Bradley Road in Wicomico
** All warblers seen and/or heard in the Nassawango area in Somerset,
Wicomico, and Worcester Counties, except where noted:
Northern Parula - 2-3
Yellow-rumped Warblers - many
Yellow-throated Warblers - seen and heard singing in many locations
Pine Warblers - many
Prairie Warbler - 1
Black-and-white Warblers ~5
American Redstart - 2
Prothonotary Warbler - 1 beautiful bird seen and heard singing
Ovenbirds - many
Louisiana Waterthrush - many
Common Yellowthroats - seen and heard along R. Roberts Rd.
Seaside Sparrows - 5-6 seen and heard at Deal Island
