Hi all,
I've been keeping a yard list here in Ashton for about 18 years, so new
birds are few and far between now. This morning while out very briefly with the
dog, I first heard singing then saw my first PINE WARBLER here. When I first
heard it, it was in some medium sized white pines in the adjacent stock
nursery, singing loudly. I couldn't find it and was trying to figure out whether it
was a Chipping Sparrow (no, too loud and the cadence wasn't right), a Palm
Warbler (too loud and strong a song), or a Junco (which I had decided upon).
Shortly a small yellowish bird flew to the top of a tall old cherry tree, then
moved lower and closer into a big mulberry where I got great looks. It
called a few times, then flew off again to another cherry tree then off towards
the north and perhaps the reservoir area (Greenbridge Rd. maybe?). Just passing
through here, as there isn't a lot of good habitat for it, which is why I
haven't seen one in all these years.
Birding is all about being in the right place at the right time! #168!
