Birds of Poplar Island on Apr 16th

    Ten members of the Talbot Bird Club visited Poplar Island on Apr 16th,
and had the pleasure being joined by Bob Ringler and Debby Terry from the
other side of the Bay.  Temperatures were still a bit cool on this bright
and sunny day, but quite a few nice birds were found.  
    Highlights:
        Northern Gannet  - 10+
        Red-throated Loon - 6+
        Common Loon - 3
        Double-crested Cormorant - 1000+
        Willet - 3
        Greater Yellowlegs - 4
        Purple Sandpiper - 8+
        Snowy Egret - 12+
        Dunlin - well over 350
        Surf Scoter - several thousand
        Black Scoter - a few
        White-winged Scoter - 4
        Other duck species - Gadwall, Blac k Duck, Mallard, Northern
Shoveler, Lesser Scaup, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser
and Ruddy Duck.
        Total Species - 42
