It's getting hard to see the Night-herons, now, with so much of the leaves
out, I found out yesterday. However, I did get a good look last weekend,
and saw four actively under-construction nests strung out in the stretch
between Wayne and Maple, in or near places occupied in past years. A
neighbor told me there was a fifth, but I didn't see that one for myself.
I live right by the park, and was thrilled, also last week, just before
the tree leaf-out went into overdrive, to spot one of the birds from my
yard! Talk about putting the binocs on the right spot by luck! I've been
trying to do that since the birds moved in, and was pretty sure I saw one
last year, but from a vantage point that it was stretching it to call my
yard.
How do you define "your yard" when you live in a community of townhouses
spread over 16 acres, anyway? I decided if it's from next to the line of
five that I live in, or just out in front where I park, that works.
Anybody else have ideas on how to define "yard" as in "birds seen in or
from the yard"?
