I guided a small group of people from St. John's Episcopal church, Chevy
Chase, this morning, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. We were at Riley's Lock on the
C&O Canal, Montgomery County.

Top birds included 2 RED-THROATED LOONS, which flew first downstream, then
upstream, just before 9. On the river between Seneca and Violette's Lock
were 2 COMMON LOONS, one in basic plumage and the other in breeding
finery. Other birds on the river included a dozen Bufflehead and about the
same number of Lesser Scaup.

A PEREGRINE FALCON flashed overhead at about 10 a.m.

The church group were thrilled to be able to look at a large number of
species through the telescope, like Brown Thrasher, House Wren, and
Chipping Sparrow, and most notably including PROTHONOTARY WARBLER.

As I was leaving Seneca, I heard my first GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER of the
spring call from a high sycamore.

Good Birding!
