Hi Everyone,

I birded Frederick and Carroll Counties this morning, and found some pretty
exciting birds. In the afternoon, Bob Ringler showed Stan Arnold and me
around Carroll Co., and Bob said he would post on our finds after we met up.
Thanks for showing us some great places, Bob! I'm pressed for time at the
moment, so here are just the morning highlights:

Mount Ephraim Road near Lilypons, Frederick County:
Wood Thrushes - 2
Ovenbirds - 3-4
Yellow-throated Vireo - 1
Wild Turkeys - 2 heard
Brown Creepers - 2
Red-eyed Vireo - 1

Base of Sugarloaf Mountain, Frederick County:
Great Crested Flycatcher - 1

Lilypons, where I met up with Bob Ringler:
SORA - 2 seen and heard
VIRGINIA RAIL - 2 seen and heard
Ruby-crowned Kinglets - several
Blue-headed Vireo - 1
Warbling Vireos - 1-2
Winter Wren - 1
Greater Yellowlegs - 2
Spotted Sandpiper - 1
Yellow Warbler - 1
Green Heron - 1

(Also saw a Barred Owl sitting in its nesting cavity in Frederick Co.!)

McKeldin Tract of Patapsco Valley SP, Carroll Co., with Stan Arnold:
Black-throated Green Warbler - 1 singing
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1
Hermit Thrush - 1
Dark-eyed Junco - 1
(If it weren't for some warblers in the area we'd have been convinced it was
still winter!)

While I'm at it, I am delinquent on a some sightings from brief stops over
the last two days:

Hughes Hollow, Montgomery Co., Friday 4/22 (a.m.)
American Bitterns - 2
Green Heron - 1
House Wren - 1
Warbling Vireos - 2-3
White-eyed Vireo - 1
Yellow Warblers - 2-3 seen and heard
Prothonotary Warblers - 2; very vocal
Northern Waterthrush - seen and heard, singing extensively

Sligo Creek, Montgomery Co., Friday 4/22 (a.m.)
Only one YCNH visible on nest in the drizzling rain. The other bird was
probably there, but I couldn't be sure.

Patuxent Research Refuge, North Tract, Anne Arundel Co.; Saturday 4/23
(a.m.)
White-eyed Vireo - 1
Northern Parulas - 20+
American Redstarts - 3-4
Prairie Warblers - 2
Black-and-white Warblers - 3-4
Pine Warblers - 2
Yellow Palm Warblers ~10
Ovenbirds - 5
Common Yellowthroats - 2
Prothonotary Warbler - 1
Swamp Sparrows - 20+

Have a great week!

Bill
