While birding with my wife Sherry along the C and O canal this morning, a Common Raven flew over our heads at about treetop level. It was about 10:45am, and we were between Pennyfield Lock and Blockhouse Point. Perhaps it was riding the gusty winds all the way from Sugarloaf mountain.
Other new migrants (which I had not yet seen this year) were Green Heron, Great Crested Flycatcher, and Palm Warbler. We also saw and heard a few huge flocks of Yellow-rumped Warblers (totalling near 100 birds I would guess), and there were a couple of large flocks of Tree Swallows over the river.
