Fort Bayard Park was pretty quiet this morning, but a lunchtime walk with
Ben Jesup to the D.C. WWI Memorial and nearby areas proved much more
productive.
The highlight was a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER at the WWI Memorial, singing an
unusual song variant and giving us great looks. Other warblers included a
BLACK-THROATED GREEN, an AMERICAN REDSTART, and about 35 YELLOW-RUMPEDs.
Other highlights:
Great Crested Flycatcher (2)
Eastern Kingbird (2)
Hermit Thrush
Brown Thrasher (7!)
House Wren
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Blue-headed Vireo
Eastern Towhee (4)
Dark-eyed Junco (1 lingering female)
Ben also thought he heard a snippet of oriole song, but we were unable to
confirm that. Nice afternoon to get out there!
