This morning at 8AM I passed the first of my four prothonotary nest boxes
above Riley's Lock on the C&O canal. Two tree swallows were perched close by, so
I assumed the fight was over.
An hour later, on my way back, there was a male prothonotary perched right on
top of the box singing strongly for a mate.
This weekend I will try to install another box close by to accommodate both
species.
