Hi Folks,

I did some mucking around one of my Anne Arundel Co. atlas blocks during the
early morning rain. Cabin Branch Park near Ferndale hosted my first VEERY
(hopping along the path in front of me) and first WORM-EATING WARBLER of the
season. A new storm water pond next to the building at the end of
International Drive, north of BWI Airport, had SPOTTED SANDPIPER, SOLITARY
SANDPIPER, and both YELLOWLEGS.

In the early afternoon after seeing the Piping Plover and other good birds
at Rocky Gap (probably to be reported on by Bill Hubick and/or others), I
stopped at Big Pool in Washington Co., and it was pretty dead. The best
thing was running into Jim Stasz, Ed Boyd, Jim Brighton, Hans Holbrook , and
Mike Burchette. I was looking for some Washington Co. birds , and Stasz put
me onto a couple locations that were productive. A small, unattractive pond
at the intersection of Ashton Rd. and Clear Spring Rd. (Delorme p 70 D3)
hosted four SPOTTED SANDPIPERs and two GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Another pond on
the north side of Clear Spring Rd. a couple miles to the east had two more
Greater Legs. Cushwa Basin Park in Williamsport had a small marshy area at
the edge of the river that had SPOTTED SANDPIPER, two LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and
a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, along with TREE, BANK, and ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWs.

There was still an hour of daylight when I got home, so I did a walk around
Southwest Area Park in Balt. Co. Lots of intersting birds to include:

Blue-winged Teal--1
Great Egret--1
Green Heron--1
Black-crowned Night Heron (one flying by at sunset)
Ring-necked Pheasant--two males crowing
Spotted Sandpiper--4
Lesser Yellowlegs--2
Caspian Tern--1 or 2
LEAST TERN--1 (first of year; they'll be here all summer)
Yellow Warbler--2 singing (first here this year)
Common Yellowthroat--6 or 7 singing
Savannah Sparrow--ca 25; they are really moving through
Swamp Sparrow--1

Another great day for birding.
