After a disappointing rainy start to the day Sunday, we birded Jug Bay in Anne Arundel county and Battle Creek Cypress Swamp in Calvert County.
Highlight of Jug Bay was a flyover of a single GLOSSY IBIS as we stood on the observation platform off the Railroad Bed trail. We also had Forster's Tern, Spotted Sandpiper, Tree Swallow, Greater Yellowlegs, Great Egret, Osprey (5-6), Great Blue Heron (5-6) and Bald Eagle from this location. Along the Railroad Bed trail, we had a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, numerous Blue-Grey Gnatcatchers and Grey Catbirds.
Highlight at Battle Creek was a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, a life bird for both of us. A Rose-Breasted Grosbeak was reported around the feeder at the visitors' center, but we did not see it. Other species seen included several Northern Parulas, a Northern Waterthrush, Ruby-Throated Hummingbird and White-Breasted Nuthatch.
Good Birding!
