Hi all --

A friend who was at Rock Creek today (and stayed after we had to leave for a
plumber app't) had her car broken into at the Nature Center parking lot--
he/they broke the car lock and then opened the trunk and took everything
they could, purse, cell phone, etc. When she reported this to the Park
Police they said there had been a lot of break-ins, although this is the
first I recall at the Nature Center area. Of course one almost never sees
any police presence around this heavily-used area of the park...maybe it
needs to be stepped up.

As I said, we had to leave early but it was obviously a very good day with
large numbers of birds flying overhead, warblers seen/heard by ourselves and
others included Black-and-White, Blue-winged, BT Blue, BT Green, Cerulean,
Chestnut-sided, Hooded, Magnolia, Myrtle, Redstart, Yellow, Com.
Yellowthroat, Worm-eating (at least 4), Wilson's, Tennessee, Parula,
Ovenbird, Louisiana Waterthrush, Palm (yellow), and Prairie. (20 species and
that is not the whole area).

Also, Hermit, Swainson's Thrush, Veery, Kingbird, Yellow-billed Cuckoo (at
least 5), Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole (4-5), Scarlet Tanager,
many many Chipping and White-throated Sparrows, also lots of Ruby-crowned
Kinglets.

However the lack of sunlight made it not as enjoyable as yesterday when the
birds were more easily seen and sitting out.
