After a few minutes of the "is it you?" dance, my buddy the Catbird jumped
on my hand for a dried grub with no further hesitation. This is the fifth
summer, fourth year. Last two years he arrived May 13; that is, when I first
made contact with him. This year I was seriously looking for him which might
explain the early arrival. He and the other C-birds seem to be more
interested in establishing turf, unpacking suitcases and generally settling
in than eating right now.
Of course, I have no visable proof that it's the same bird - just the
behavior.

P.S. late yesterday at Goddard west campus - my season's first Scarlet
Tanager in bright sun against a deep blue sky. Also three Wood Ducks in the
west pond - I think one of them was a female but didn't get a good look.
