I received today the list of teams participating in next Saturday's World
Series of Birding in New Jersey. Of particular note are the youth teams
from Maryland. Queen Anne's County has 3 Centreville Middle School teams, a
Queen Anne's County high school team, an independent high school team
sponsored by Steiner Optics, and last, but certainly not least, Zach Baer is
a member of the Coastal Cuckoos sponsored by Nikon. I also believe that
there are a couple of other high school birders competing from Maryland, but
I cannot remember their names and teams. Sorry! If someone knows this
info, please post. Youth birding is alive and well in Maryland which can
certainly boast some of the best youth birders in the nation.

There are now 3 youth divisions in the WSB: Elementary School (grades 1-5),
Middle School (grades 6-8), and High School. There is even a category for
ages 3 through 5 but it is non-competitive. It is too late to register for
this year, but it is not too late to start thinking about taking a team to
next year's event.
