An even dozen birders convened at 8 AM for an MBC sponsored walk in 54 degree
iffy looking weather which soon resolved into a beautiful 70 degree day by
the end of the walk at noon. A total of 52 species was recorded, a third of
which were heard only, a frustrating result of tall trees, dense foliage and
territorial birds. The warbler list consisted of 6 Parula, 2 Magnolia, Cape May
(seen before the others arrived), 5 Black-throated Blue, 15 Yellow-rumped, 4
Blackpoll, 3 Black-and-white, 6 Redstart, 3 Ovenbirds, Louisiana Waterthrush
and Yellowthroat. Other highlights included 3 Scarlet Tanagers, 2
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, 2 Indigo Buntings, 2 Baltimore Orioles and our resident Beaver.
Later, in the early afternoon a Yellow-billed Cuckoo sang behind the house.
The list was decent, but the looks few.
